My Journey to Success in Business: Day 1
Even though I’m still in high school, one thing’s for certain. I want to do great things. And I want to do them now. That being said, I have quite literally $3 startup capital. So let’s back up for a minute: maybe I’m not ready to start the next Tesla or Airbnb. However, I am ready to learn more about what I think I’m passionate about. And that is, of course, business and environmental engineering.
There are so many opportunities with the two of those and I really think there’s a growing market out there in the environmental sector, especially when it comes to stuff like EVs (even though the market is getting oversaturated), bikes, and solar.
While all that is great, I want to do something different. Which is why today marks day 1 of my journey to winning some prestigious business competitions.
Now, I want to get this clear: I am NOT doing this for college. I don’t have a burning urge to go to a very expensive name brand college. What I do have a burning urge for is real competition and an environment around me filled with brilliant young people who can inspire me to do better with my life.
Here’s how this series is going to work. Every day, I’m going to post no matter what and tell you, my audience, what I did that day pertaining to the various competitions. My goal is that this will keep me accountable for being lazy and undisciplined.
For example, today I worked on the business plan by writing an executive summary complete with a mission statement, product overview, market opportunity, and business objectives. Then, I wrote the problem statement: what problem my product will address and why it is necessary in the first place! After this, I conducted some pretty rudimentary market analysis. And that’s it. Day 1 is officially in the books. Or is it in the blog? I don’t even know at this point—it’s 1 a.m. on September 1st and I did 9 miles on my mountain bike today. It was lovely.
Anyhow, thanks for reading this far, and I’ll see you for tomorrow’s post.
P.S - Tomorrow is the first newsletter I’m sending out. Looking forward to it! All love, Daniel
